After a couple of days of pulling out my hair and poring over these forums, I think I finally got this thing figured out. My problem was that I was unable to connect to my router (Netgear WGT624; wireless card Netegriti em500 A/B/G). I first had to enable SSID broadcasting on my router. So now I could see the network, but still not connect. What I found was that even though I had manually set the connection up with the correct WEP key and Authentication mode, for some reason it didn't stick. I opened the Network Center, then selected Reorder Networks. I right-clicked on my network and was able to get to the settings. I changed the Authentication mode from Open to WEP and then re-entered my WEP key and viola`. Hope this helps.
